The municipality of Veržej was formed in 1998 by secession from Ljutomer.

Municipal flag of Veržej

The flag and arms of Veržej are prescribed by Decision Odlok o istovetnostnih simbolih Občine Verzej, adopted on 16 May 2000 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 58/2000, amended by Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah odloka o istovetnostnih simbolih Občine Verzej (text), adopted on 22 August 2002 and published in Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 77/2002.

The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.

The flag is horizontal, in proportions 2:5, blue with two vertical white stripes forming a central square field containing the carp, cord and one wavy line from the coat of arms.
