USMA was founded on 27 May 1965 by Father Benjamin Ayechu, Director of the San
Agustín College, as the first private university in the country. Catering 3,000
students and 500 professors, USMA is divided into the Faculties of
Administration Sciences, Life Sciences and Technology, Social Sciences, Law and
Political Sciences, and Humanities and Religion Sciences.

The flag of USMA is vertically divided sky blue-white with a cross flory in the white part. Sky blue represents the patron saint of the university, the Blessed Virgin. White represents peace. The cross, taken from the coat of arms of the university, symbolizes the Catholic origin of the university.
The flag is seen on photos taken in November 2010 during an official ceremony.
