The emblem is stylized Kanji character of Iwa of Iwate which symbolizes advanced progress. Adopted 1965-03-06.

Morioka / 盛岡市

The city flag was adopted on Oct 23rd 1996 by Prefecture Notice No 350. The green flag charged with white city emblem in the center. The flag proportion 2:3.  The city emblem is two diamonds intersected in a right angle. The diamond was the family crest of the former lord of Nambu Clan.

Shizukuishi Town / 雫石町

The town emblem was adopted on Apr 1st 1965 by Notice No 26 but there is no flag law. The brown flag has a white town emblem in the center. The town emblem is a stylized katakana シ Shi of Shizukuishi. It represents a vast hill and dale, a concord and an effort.
