The ratio is 3:5. It is a red over yellow over blue horizontal tricolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is twice divided per fess into red, golden (= yellow) and blue. In a red inescutcheon is a silver (= white) Latin cross topped by a coronet in natural colour.
According to source the colours in the shield are those of Mecklenburg. The inescutcheon shows the arms of the Bishopric (later Principality) of Ratzeburg.

Flag and coat of arms were approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 22 October 1997, published in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania as no. 0139.
